How to care for 925 sterling silver (free guide inside)

Sterling silver is meant to be worn, not kept in a drawer. A little care keeps it bright for years — here is the five-minute routine we recommend for every piece in our jewellery collection.

Why silver darkens

925 sterling silver is 92.5% silver with a little copper for strength. Air, sweat, perfume and humidity slowly form a thin dark layer called tarnish. It is harmless and easy to remove. Pieces with an oxidised finish, like our Oxidised Filigree Bird Studs, are darkened on purpose — clean those gently.

Five habits that keep silver bright

  • Last on, first off: put jewellery on after perfume and lotion, take it off before showering, swimming or sport.
  • Wipe after wearing with a soft dry cloth.
  • Store pieces separately in a zip bag or pouch, away from bathrooms.
  • Polish lightly with a silver cloth when you see the first dull spots.
  • Wear it often — gentle friction keeps silver shining.

Pearls and stones need extra care

Pearls, like those on our Pearl Bracelet and Marcasite & Pearl Drops, are soft: wipe with a damp cloth only and never soak them. Marcasite and set stones can loosen in water, so clean them with a dry soft brush.
